A few tools/sites/things I’m really liking at the moment.
Claude Code – at the moment it feels like the best agentic coding tool. Surprised that so few engineers seem to use it. It’s basically magic. As of a few weeks ago you can use Claude Code with a Claude Pro subscription, you don’t need to use an API key (which ends up being much more expensive)
Monzo Extra – £3 a month and you get lots of useful things (all your bank accounts in one app, virtual cards, see your credit score). I signed up for Max when I was on a plane and realised I didn’t have travel insurance but ultimately it’s cheaper to get it separately. I do miss the weekly free Greggs vegan sausage roll though.
Simplehuman – enhanced keyboard shortcuts and automation for Gmail. If you live in your inbox you need this.
FreeAgent – not for me but I set my girlfriend up with it last weekend and it’s just the best tool for managing your small business. I used to use it a decade ago when I had a tiny PR consultancy; it feels like it’s barely changed but maybe that’s because it’s already perfect.
Pi-Hole – DNS server you can run on a Raspberry Pi which blocks all ads on all your devices when you’re at home. You can also configure it to block other sites; I have YouTube and Instagram blocked on my phone using MAC address-specific blocklists.
ZSA Moonlander – went down the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole and ended up getting one of these second-hand. The learning curve is steep but it’s super enjoyable to use. I’m often on the move so might switch to a Voyager.
Philips OneBlade – still really enjoying this after a year. Have only charged it a handful of times. Adjustable comb is really useful.
Couchers – a relaunched couchsurfing site (the original seems to have died a death when they started charging for membership). Maybe we’re going to see a couchsurfing renaissance!
hckrnews – unofficial Hacker News interface which lets you filter just the top handful of posts per day. At least makes losing hours to that site a bit less likely.
Jack’s Flight Club – mostly I end up just reading the emails and dreaming of going places, but has been nice for some random trips to places I would never have otherwise gone (like seeing the northern lights in Rovaniemi).
I tried out Claude Code for work last week, but I really had to hold its hand every step of the way, and it never got things right no matter how much I broke down the problem. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
